Re-install GRUB 0.9 to the MBR (maste boot record)
- Boot from a rescue CD. I recommend the System Rescue CD.
- Mount your filesystem. My system usually has two partitions, one for root and one for boot.
mount /dev/sda2 /mnt mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot
- Bind the dev filesystem
mount -o bind /dev /mnt/dev
- Chroot to the environment
chroot /mnt /bin/bash
- use Grub to reinstall Grub. Grub starts counting devices at 0, so hd0 is the equivalent of /dev/sda and hd0,0 is the equivalent of /dev/sda1
grub root (hd0,0) setup (hd0)
